In Moscow, doctors began using virtual reality to help patients who showed signs of apathy, fatigue and bad mood. Psychiatrist Allan Beniashvili of the Center for Speech Pathology and Neurorehabilitation spoke about this. They use a proprietary technology created three years ago by Boeing’s Russia division. It was originally designed to rescue pilots and controllers after psychological and mental overstrain. Now this technology is helping patients in hospitals cope with the consequences of long-term treatments for free.
As a result of the first experiment in which 40 people participated, improvements in depression, anxiety, fatigue and stress were observed in the patients. During the experiment, participants donned a virtual reality helmet and immersed in various landscapes such as mountainous areas for half an hour. The patients were in a comfortable cocoon chair and engaged in relaxation, working with emotions and images.
This is an innovative approach to the treatment of mental conditions and allows patients to recover and improve their well-being. This type of therapy can be beneficial not only in hospitals but also in other areas where people face psychological difficulties. Virtual reality offers new possibilities in the field of mental health and can be an effective tool for dealing with negative emotions and stress.
