Mark Zuckerberg is building a super-secret complex with an area of more than 560 hectares in Hawaii, The Wired journalists discovered.
According to the publication, the director of Meta* purchased the land for construction through transactions that began in 2014. One of the oldest islands, Kauai, was chosen for the complex. It is home to just over 70 thousand people.
As journalists found out, the cost of the future complex exceeds $270 million: $100 million went to construction, and the remaining $170 million went to the purchase of land. This data is reflected in the project documents, but Wired admits that the estimate may be an underestimate.
During construction, workers are prohibited from discussing details. As some of them said, before getting a job they had to sign a confidentiality agreement. There were incidents of dismissals for non-compliance.
“This is fight club. We’re not talking about fight club. <...> They will immediately find out everything that is published from here,” said one of the workers.
Additionally, several incidents occurred at the facilities. One of the guards suffered a heart attack and the man died in the hospital. This episode led to litigation, but did not prevent construction.
According to journalists, it will be a complex of 12 buildings with two mansions as dominant elements. The authors of the material counted 30 bedrooms and the same number of bathrooms.
They also suggested that the complex would not only be residential, but also corporate. Thus, offices and conference rooms are located in the mansions, and a large kitchen on an industrial scale is also built.
The area of the mansions is approximately two football fields (5 thousand square meters). They are connected by tunnels to an underground shelter of 450 square meters. meter.
A separate building will be allocated for a fitness complex with a tennis court, several swimming pools, a sauna and a plunge pool. There will also be 11 small houses among the forest trees. The entire complex will be self-sufficient in water, electricity and food.
