Apple has announced a new “conditional pricing” system in the App Store.

It is designed to help developers attract new users. As Apple itself characterizes it:

Conditional pricing can be used for subscriptions from one or two different developers. For example, you could offer an Ocean Journal premium subscriber to subscribe to Mountain Climber for a discounted price of $4.99 per month instead of the regular $5.99 per month. Customers pay reduced prices for equipment as long as they remain Ocean Journal subscribers.

For now, the innovation is being tested in pilot mode. The company provided more information in January.
