The realignment of the route infrastructure began in 2018, when one of Kansai Electric Power Co.’s trolley bus fleets, whose vehicles operated on the route from Ogizawa Station in Nagano Prefecture to Kurobe Dam Station in Toyama Prefecture, was replaced with electric buses. Now it is the turn of the Tateyama Kurobe Kanko Co trolleybuses, which have been providing tourist transportation along the Tateyama Kurobe mountain route since 1996.
As of December 1, 2024, there will be no routes for trolleybuses to operate in Japan, and instead, electric buses, the production of which has started, will start operating everywhere. Trolleybuses often experience parts shortages, which was the main factor in making this decision.
