The Wikimedia.ru community is closing. The director of the organization, Stanislav Kozlovsky, spoke about this on the Wikipedia forum.
“The liquidation process will last several months,” Kozlovsky wrote.

In 2023, Wikimedia received 13 fines in Russia totaling more than 20 million rubles, all related to violations of the procedure for restricting access to information. The Wikimedia Foundation was first fined in April 2022.
In October, a proposal was made in the State Duma to remove Wikipedia from search results.
