Airlines have reduced ticket prices for domestic flights during the New Year holidays following a warning from the Federal Antimonopoly Service. The department noted that tickets for flights within Russia fell in price by between 7% and 39%, mainly to the south of the country, the northern Caucasus regions and larger cities.
The Federal Antimonopoly Service announced a reduction in air ticket prices throughout Russia during the New Year holidays. On average, ticket prices fell between 7% and 39%, the department said in a statement.
According to the FAS, airlines have started selling economy class tickets at reduced prices to the North Caucasus regions, the south of the country and the largest cities in Russia.
The department noted that they previously analyzed air ticket prices and warned carriers about the need to revise them during the period of high demand, which is the New Year holidays.
In May, the average cost of airline tickets in Economy class increased in annual terms by 28%, up to 6,972 rubles per thousand kilometers of travel. The declared price was the highest since 2000.
