After the launch of Meta’s Threads application (recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) on the European market, in the week before December 23, it became the most popular (most downloaded) in the App Store from Apple.

Threads became the most downloaded app on the App Store in the week ending December 23.

The Threads application, which has similar functionality to Elon Musk’s X and is considered a direct competitor to this social network, was launched six months ago. That was also the peak of its popularity: 150 million downloads, Business Insider recalls.

Then the volume of downloads decreased significantly, but after the launch of the web version and the entry into the European Union market on December 14, the platform is gaining subscribers again.

For several weeks in a row, Threads has been among the five most popular applications in the App Store, immediately after its launch in the EU it moved to second place after Temu, a marketplace for discount products, and since December 20 it has led the list of the most downloaded.

In the Google Play store, Threads ranks fifth in terms of the number of free apps downloaded, although a year ago it was not in the top ten.

Over the past three months, Threads users have grown 17% to just under 35 million, according to Apptopia, and monthly active users have increased 27% to just under 140 million. The total number of downloads since launch was 445 million.

Even before the Threads app became available in the EU, the platform showed some staying power, becoming Apple’s fourth most downloaded app of the entire year.
