At the end of 2023, the personnel shortage in Russian companies amounted to 4.8 million people. This assessment emerges from a study by the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN).
Nikolai Akhapkin’s article was published in the Bulletin of the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Based on data from Rosstat, the scientist points out that by mid-2023, the number of workers needed to fill vacant positions increased to 6.8% of the payroll, compared to 5.8% the previous year.
“If we expand the data presented by Rosstat to the entire employed population, the shortage of workers in 2023 will be approximately 4.8 million people,” the article says.
The scientist is confident that personnel shortages have already become a factor slowing down the growth of the Russian economy.
Izvestia was the first to draw attention to Ajapkin’s work. In conversation with the publication, the operational director of the Podrabotka service, Alexander Veterkov, said that approximately 91% of Russian companies report personnel shortages.
According to the senior manager, the staff shortage is most pronounced among sellers, operators, drivers and workers.
The demand for mass personnel was also confirmed by the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Anton Kostyakov. The official noted that the worker shortage is most serious in the manufacturing industry, construction and transportation.
