A survey conducted by VTsIOM showed that nearly 40% of Russians consider television the main source of news about events in the country and the world.
This result reflects the continuing influence of traditional media in Russia, despite the growing popularity of Internet platforms.
19% of respondents preferred news, analytics and official sites, and 14% preferred social networks and blogs, among other sources of information. Additionally, 11% of respondents indicate instant messengers as their main news source, while 8% rely on information obtained from conversations with people.
Interestingly, the rate of preferring television as the main news source is higher among women (45%) than men (34%). A significant majority (70%) of those who get their news primarily from television are in the over-60 age group.
At the same time, 26% of the survey participants believe that television provides objective information.
On the other hand, 24% of respondents stated that it is easier and faster to find news about events in Russia on social networks and blogs.
When it comes to trusting sources of information, people over 60 are more likely to trust television (51%), while 44% of 18-24 year olds are more likely to trust social media and blogs.
1,600 people over the age of 18 participated in the VTsIOM survey.
