The first vice president of Baltika, transferred to the Federal Property Management Agency, Alexander Dedegkaev, contacted the presidential administration and asked for help in protecting the company’s brands in countries that Russia considers friendly, Vedomosti learned. Baltika wants the patent departments of the CIS countries to stop registering licensing agreements for the use of the group’s main brands.

Russian Baltika tries to ban Carlsberg from using the brand in the CIS countries

In early December, Denmark’s Carlsberg lost to Baltika in court over the use of licensing agreements for beer brands.

At the same time, in July, representatives of the Russian company, without the participation of President Taimuraz Bolloev, on behalf of Carlsberg, signed agreements on the transfer of rights to this brand to structures affiliated with Danish holdings: Vista Buy Co LLC, Carlsberg Kazakhstan LLP, Carlsberg Azerbaijan LLC and others.

According to Dedegkaev, the agreements were concluded by a person whose powers ended two days before the signing of the documents. It is not specified who exactly we are talking about.

In this regard, the publication recalls the arrest of former top managers of the company Denis Sherstennikov and Anton Rogachevsky. They are suspected of fraud, which allegedly consisted of transferring the rights to a part of the Baltika brands to foreign Carlsberg structures.

The documents signed in the summer, Dedegkaev notes in a letter to the head of the presidential administration, Anton Vaino, mean the transfer for 20 years to the Carlsberg structures of the rights to use the Baltika trademarks in several CIS countries.

Therefore, Baltika, managed by the Federal Property Management Agency, cannot use the Baltika brand in these countries. At the same time, the brand is the most valuable and recognizable asset.

Currently, the Danish holding structures are registering licensing agreements with the patent offices of the countries mentioned in the letter. In Belarus the procedures have already been completed.

Earlier this month, Baltika President Taimuraz Bolloev approached the head of the Federal Property Management Agency with a proposal to nationalize the company. Carlsberg’s CEO has accused Russian authorities of stealing his business.
