It turns out that the popular children’s game about Plumber Mario can be used as a highly effective antidepressant. During the study, researchers divided 46 people with MDD into three groups: the first group played Super Mario Odyssey, the second group received standard treatment, and the third group used a cognitive exercise program.
Test results showed that the most remarkable improvement came from those who played Mario. Overall, all MDD symptoms decreased, motivation to continue treatment increased, and visuospatial memory improved.
At the same time, scientists believe that it is too early to draw any conclusions due to the small number of people participating in the research.
