The new truck carries 56 kg of hydrogen and can travel 800 km on a single charge. Before September, automakers will determine the truck’s practicality — how well the vehicle can handle loads and how easy or difficult it is to refuel. The goal of the project is to start sales in 2027.

And the Japanese government has its own mission: to produce 5,000 heavy trucks powered by hydrogen fuel cells by 2030 as part of decarbonization. At the same time, this technology is not yet considered as a potential, so its widespread use among consumers is difficult and slow.

Honda and Isuzu’s experience is not the first: In May, a hydrogen fuel cell truck developed by Toyota Motor and its subsidiary Hino became the first experimental vehicle to begin demonstration testing.
