Located next to the arrow keys and Alt button, this new key instantly opens the Copilot AI assistant, making it easier to access its capabilities. For now, it largely copies Windows+C’s existing functionality, but hints that Microsoft is planning deeper AI integration.
On devices without Copilot or Microsoft accounts, the key will act as a search trigger within Windows.
The move signals Microsoft’s commitment to making AI a core part of the computing experience, unlike past initiatives that remained software-centric, such as Cortana.
Chipmakers like Intel and AMD are increasing NPU capabilities and signaling greater hardware and software synergies for AI functions, with the company’s marketing director calling 2024 the “Year of AI computers.”
