The tomb was discovered by British amateur archaeologist Howard Carter. Subsequently, almost everyone who was directly involved in the excavations and entered the tomb died.
For a long time there were different versions and theories about the causes of death. Basically it was all about mysticism and spirituality. But not so long ago, scientists began to compare the causes and symptoms recorded in death and decided that there could be no talk of any mysticism or any ancient technology. The real reason is the high level of aerobic mold fungus Aspergillus.
This type of mold attacks the lungs and causes other diseases. These mushrooms were discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamun, and members of the expedition in 1922 died of “cave sickness.” One of the confirmations of this hypothesis was the death of those who participated in the excavation of the grave of the Lithuanian prince Kazimir Jagiellonczyk, who died from a lung infection unknown at that time. Aspergillus was also found at this location.
A lot of wheat was found in Tutankhamun’s tomb in which this mold grew well, and allowing the fungus to rest for so long made the mold spores extremely virulent.
A few years after the excavations, archaeologist Carter died, as did his earlier sponsor, Count Carnarvon, and subsequently everyone who visited the pharaoh’s tomb. Except for security guard Sergeant Richard Adamson.
“Potentially harmful fungi survive in graves for very long periods of time. Research results suggest that such long dormant phases can lead to increased virulence.” British doctors Sherif and Tariq El-Tawil had previously announced.
