The American private company United Launch Alliance (ULA) launched a Vulcan rocket to the Moon, which should carry cargo, NASA reports.
The device was launched from the United States Space Force’s launch pad number 41 in Florida. The Peregrine lander, developed by Astrobotic Technologies, should deliver a payload of up to 90 kg to the Earth satellite.
The Peregrine module was developed for NASA missions, including commercial cargo delivery. It is expected to reach the Moon on February 23. It will be the first American lander in five decades to reach the Moon.
If the mission is successful, Vulcan launches will continue. And in the future, the launch vehicle should replace the company’s Atlas V rocket.
Development of the Vulcan began in 2014 and is powered by BE-4 engines from Blue Origin, founded by billionaire Jeff Bezos.
