The Russian analogue of Wikipedia, Ruviki, has been tested and is preparing to release the full version on January 15. This was reported to Izvestia by the company’s press service.
Users will have access to content customization, thematic collections, audio counts of articles, videos and podcasts. In six months, the Ruviki interface was created for 20 languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation, and this year it is planned to open at least 10 more language sections.
At the end of 2023, the Russian Wikipedia community, Wikimedia.ru, decided to stop operating. The organization worked in Russia for 15 years, led a community of Russian-speaking authors, held conferences and seminars.
Previously, Wikimedia received 13 fines in Russia totaling more than 20 million rubles, all related to violations of the procedure for restricting access to information. The Wikimedia Foundation was first fined in April 2022.
In October, a proposal was made in the State Duma to remove Wikipedia from search results.
