Hyperkin, a well-known retro console manufacturer, introduced the Mega 95, a new portable game console specifically designed to play games from the original Sega Genesis and Mega Drive cartridges.

The Mega 95 has a five-inch screen that lets you switch between 4:3 and 16:9 modes, and a battery with 10 hours of gaming life.

The console is a portable version of Hyperkin’s existing Genesis-compatible MegaRetroN HD retro console, released in 2018.

It’s expected to take a hardware-based approach to emulating Genesis games, offering quality that falls somewhere between software emulation and the premium FPGA-based system found in Analogue’s Mega Sg home console.

Not only is the Mega 95 portable, it can also be connected to your TV via a USB-C dock, which has ports for connecting additional controllers. Every Mega 95 comes with this dock.

The Mega 95’s price and release date have yet to be announced, but for comparison, Hyperkin’s portable Super NES emulation console is currently on sale for $119.99.
