The number of people with brokerage accounts on the Moscow Stock Exchange has increased by 1.3 times over the year; now there are almost 30 million.

Individuals opened more than 52.4 million accounts (an increase of 14 million in 2023).

In 2023, an average of 3 million people traded each month on the trading platform’s stock market. In 2022 there were 2.2 million.

The share of private investors in the stock trading volume in 2023 was on average 79%, in the bond trading volume – one third (32%), in the spot foreign exchange market – 18% (one of every five), in the derivatives market, 65%.

Last year, private investors invested more than 1.1 trillion rubles in securities on the Moscow Stock Exchange, of which more than 178 billion rubles were invested in stocks, 215.4 billion rubles in exchange-traded funds stock market and 715 billion rubles in bonds.

The most active regions where individuals have brokerage accounts on the stock exchange were Moscow (2.59 million), Moscow Region (1.69 million), St. Petersburg (1.29 million), Krasnodar Territory (1, 13 million), Sverdlovsk Region (1.01 million).

The site also analyzed the most popular securities in the portfolios of private investors in December 2023: ordinary and preferred shares of Sberbank (30% and 7.3%, respectively), Gazprom shares (15.4%), LUKOIL (13 .8%), Yandex (6.4%), Surgutneftegaz preferred shares (6.4%), Norilsk Nickel shares (6.4%), Rosneft (6.1%), Magnit (4.3%) and Tatneft (4%).

Previously, the Moscow Stock Exchange reported that the volume of investments in money market funds at the end of 2023 exceeded 200 billion rubles, a 15-fold increase. The number of investors who have an asset of this type in their portfolios has tripled.
