Married couple Ina and David Steiner published newsletters criticizing eBay, and the trading giant responded by sending out packages with sarcastic content. At various times, the Steiners received packages from the store that included a funeral wreath, a bloody pig mask, a pig embryo and live insects. This was a tactic to scare the elderly into switching their ballots. There was blackmail and intimidation in 2019.

But eventually law enforcement took up this case and even found that there were attempts to confuse the investigation. In addition, eBay employees were even tracking the Steiners using a GPS tracking device. They also published their addresses on a website where they sought sexual intercourse at the inviting party’s home.

Now eBay’s senior security manager and several of his employees will go to trial: they will face prison time and pay $ 3 million in compensation to the victims. And at least six people involved in the situation were fired.

“We continue to offer our deepest apologies to the Steiners for their incident. Since these events, new executives have joined the company and eBay has strengthened its policies, controls and training,” said eBay CEO Jamie Iannone.
