Production will be carried out at the company’s factory in Nevada, USA. The capacity of the updated batteries will be increased, which will increase efficiency and reduce the overall cost of electric vehicles.
Shoichiro Watanabe, Panasonic Energy’s chief technology officer, said the company could double its production capacity by fiscal 2030 without needing to build new facilities or make significant investments.
Improving performance and increasing battery capacity are key areas of Panasonic’s efforts to reduce the overall costs of electric vehicles.
The company currently has eight production bases worldwide, five in Japan and three abroad.
The manufacturer is also in talks with Mazda and other automakers to supply batteries. Panasonic expects vehicle battery production capacity to double from fiscal 2022 to 200 GWh by fiscal 2030.
