Security researchers at Trail of Bits have discovered vulnerabilities in some graphics processing units (GPUs) made by Apple, Qualcomm, AMD, and Imagination. It’s called LeftoverLocals.

Apple has confirmed the existence of the flaw and is already working to fix it. Using this vulnerability, an attacker can read GPU data that is left over from previous processing. For example, they were able to examine requests sent to ChatGPT.

One way or another, to identify vulnerabilities, a hacker must have direct access to the device.

With the help of some manipulations, the company has already closed the security “hole”. For example, in iPad Air 3 (A12) and iPhone 15 (A16/17 Pro). However, it is still preserved in the iPhone 12 and MacBook Air M2. It is unknown what other chips are involved. All that remains is to wait for security fixes. [9to5]
