X (formerly Twitter) app for Android finally got support for voice and video calls. The function was announced this Thursday (18) by a platform developer on the social network.

Basically, this feature allows two people to chat via voice or video in real time via XJust like they do on WhatsApp, Messenger or iMessage.

Additionally, Android users will also have more options in the settings menu. In the “Direct Messages” section of the application, Options are included to limit searches to only followed, verified profiles or to turn off the function completely.

When a call is received, the application sends a notification to the mobile phone. If you do not answer the call, the alert is replaced with a missed call message.

Voice and video calls for the X launch on iOS in October 2023. This is another of the features that led the service to Elon Musk’s initial idea of ​​becoming an “app for everything.”

Phased distribution

The functionality is rolled out to everyone via an update. If it hasn’t reached you yet It’s worth checking the Play Store for any pending updates.

As with X for iOS, this functionality is exclusive to X Premium subscribers. Anyone can receive calls, but only those who pay can initiate calls.
