The Ax-3 crew includes Spanish-born astronaut and US Navy veteran Michael Lopez-Alegria, pilot Walter Villaday, a colonel in the Italian Air Force, Turkey’s first astronaut Alper Gezeravci and Swedish test pilot Markus Wandt. Astronauts will conduct a variety of scientific experiments on the ISS, including biology, physiology, technology and earth science research.

The launch of Ax-3 is a major milestone in the commercialization of space travel. This is the first mission to the ISS funded entirely by a private company and demonstrates the growing demand for private access to space.

The company’s ultimate goal is to build a private space station that will eventually replace the ISS. Axiom Space believes private space stations will be more affordable and efficient than government-owned ones and will provide a better experience for astronauts.
