Apple initially aimed to create a fully autonomous electric car, but after a series of meetings between the board of directors and project management, including Kevin Lynch and CEO Tim Cook, it was decided to focus on more realistic goals.
As a result, Apple has turned to developing an electric vehicle with more limited autonomous driving capabilities, similar to Tesla’s current level of Autopilot.
According to insiders, Apple’s original plan included the ability to drive autonomously on North American highways without human intervention in most cases.
However, Apple’s EV will now use L2+ technology, which was not the original L4 or even previous L5 plans.
