Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney criticized Apple’s changes to the App Store and iOS 17.4, which allow the installation of applications from external stores in the European Union.

According to him, Apple’s new rules represent a pattern of “malicious enforcement” of laws.

They are forcing developers to choose between App Store exclusivity and store terms that would be illegal under the DMA, or accepting a new and illegal anti-competitive scheme replete with new fees for junk downloads and new Apple taxes on payments that are not processed.

Apple offers choices about which stores are allowed to compete with its App Store. For example, they could ban Epic from running the Epic Games Store and distributing Fortnite through it, or block Microsoft, Valve, Old Good Games or new entrants.

There’s a lot more nonsense in Apple’s announcement. It will take more time to get through both the written and unscripted portions of this new horror show, so stay tuned.
