The owner of the 2GIS mapping service, DublGiS, managed through the court to declare the removal of the application from Google Play illegal. The full court decision has not yet been published, RBC writes.

A Russian court ordered Google to return 2GIS to the app store

The 2GIS mapping service became unavailable in the Google Play app store at the end of May 2023. The removal is most likely related to sanctions against Sber, which owns 72% of the company and whose key applications (Sberbank Online, SberBusiness, SberInvestor X, etc.) disappeared from the App Store and Google Play immediately after the introduction of restrictive measures.

Last summer, DoubleGIS filed a lawsuit against the Russian Google, the Irish Google Commerce Limited and the American Google LLC, demanding that Google’s unilateral refusal to distribute the 2GIS application be invalidated, reinstated in Russia and the countries of the CEI, as well as the account will be restored and access to the email will be restored.

The plaintiff also requested that he be paid a fine of 100 thousand rubles for each day of non-execution of the court decision, and that the amount be doubled every week.

Lawyers doubt the decision will be enforced; Otherwise, it will trigger a wave of similar lawsuits. Previously, Google did not comply with court decisions on similar disputes with it.
