Judging by the 81 completed warranty cases in which drivers contacted Tesla service centers, the rear parking sensors do not turn on when reversing. Both the company and the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the problem was caused by a software glitch.

Most likely the crash is caused by a version conflict after the update. Tesla owners are therefore advised to check which software versions they are using. The issue may have affected versions 2023.44.30, 2023.44.30.6 and 2023.44.100. According to NHTSA, Tesla released an over-the-air (OTA) update to fix the glitch.

Approximately 1.8 million electric vehicles were produced in 2023. The rear parking sensor error affected more than 10% of cars produced in 2023.
