Google Maps is the giant’s latest service to receive improvements with generative artificial intelligence (AI). The application now has the capacity to deliver search results for even more subjective topics at the user’s request.
Integration allows Google Maps Ability to interpret complex requests such as “show me vintage-style places in San Francisco,” “I want activities for rainy days,” and “places to go with kids.”
The model analyzes all the detailed information about the organizations on the platform, taking into account descriptions, photos, ratings and consumer reviews to present the results.
Since Google doesn’t specify which model powers its Maps assistant, it’s impossible to tell the basis of its training.
In a way, the addition of the app is like an instant tourist guide inside your mobile phone. In addition to providing richer results in terms of content, the new feature also saves the user time from detailed searches by meeting more specific needs.
Like all generative AI, the results are not perfect. In addition to being prone to errors, the Assistant also relies on community-provided information that is not available in all regions.
Available in early access
According to Google, The new feature is in early access only in the United States. In the announcement, the company did not give details about when the new feature would be released to everyone.
