According to a new report from The Information, the company is developing at least two iPhone prototypes that fold similarly to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series devices.
However, despite active development, mass production of the foldable iPhone is not planned in the next two years. Engineers encountered design issues related to the vulnerability of folding screens to damage.
Apple is also working on a foldable iPad with an eight-inch screen, which is expected to be about the same size as the iPad Mini.
The company’s engineers aim to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the screen and are developing a hinge that will allow the screen to lie flat when opened.
It’s unclear exactly when Apple will launch the foldable iPad, but there is speculation about a possible launch in 2026 or 2027. Just in time for the 20th anniversary of the iPhone series.
