New product created by Collins Aerospace tested in commercial microgravity flight; this was an important step towards completing development and preparing for “critical design review”.
This spacesuit differs from previous models in reduced weight and size, as well as increased flexibility, allowing astronauts to more easily adapt to various space mission conditions.
It is also designed to fit a wide range of body types; This is a significant advance over standard spacesuits based on outdated designs.
During testing, the suit was subjected to in-flight “shifts” that simulated zero-gravity conditions to test how effectively astronauts could move and perform tasks in such an environment.
Other tests will include tests in a vacuum chamber to evaluate the suit’s performance in the vacuum of space, as well as underwater tests simulating microgravity for spacewalk training at NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory in Texas.
