Citing questionable patent claims, Google claims Sonos is waging a “deception campaign against useful features” of Google Home devices and smart speakers.
The decision comes as a relief for Google and its users, as a previous legal dispute forced Google to remove some features from its devices, including multi-room connectivity.
Additionally, Google is using this victory to support patent reform in the US. The company emphasizes the need to increase funding to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to keep pace with advances in technology and provide the time necessary to evaluate complex patents.
Sonos plans to appeal the court’s decision by appealing it.
