Service aggregators, marketplaces and other online services may limit the scope of collection of personal data from their users. The corresponding draft law was prepared by the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on constitutional legislation and state construction, Irina Rukavishnikova. The document was supported by the government, writes Izvestia.
Deputy Head of the Federal Mediation Center Vladimir Kuznetsov says that now operators can, for example, hide consent to the processing of personal data in the user agreement and because of this, personal information of citizens can reach To thirds.
According to Roskomnadzor, more than 300 million pieces of personal data were leaked online last year, and more than 500 million since the beginning of this year.
The authors of the document also believe that it is worth fixing in the legislation the provision that the operator cannot deny a service to customers if they do not want to provide personal information.
- In January 2024, the State Duma adopted in first reading draft laws on fines for billing and criminal liability for leakage of personal data. Those who decide to transfer Russian data abroad will face up to eight years in prison, and up to five years for those who decide to make money by selling this data.
