The lawsuit, filed in California on behalf of Prime subscriber Wilbert Napoleon, alleges that Amazon “changed the terms of the agreement” by serving ads even though users paid for an “ad-free” Prime subscription. The complaint alleges that this violates consumer protection laws and calls Amazon’s actions “unfair, unethical, and substantially harmful to consumers.”
It’s worth noting that Amazon charges an additional fee of $2.99 per month if it doesn’t advertise. But the lawsuit argues that users should not be forced to pay extra for something they believe is already included with their Prime subscription.
This case is not the only voice expressing dissatisfaction. The introduction of advertising sparked criticism from many users who felt cheated by this change, especially those who chose Prime for the ability to watch TV shows and movies ad-free.
