Two Maryland cities who tried to defraud Apple of millions of dollars pleaded guilty today to fraud charges.

Chinese citizens Haotian Sun and Pengfei Xue developed a scheme in which Apple replaced original iPhones with stands. From May 2017 to September 2019, they used fake iPhones from Hong Kong, and then with fake serial numbers and IMEI, which were sold to these devices through authorized service centers and Apple Stores.

During this period, scammers supplied Apple with 5,000 counterfeit iPhones.

The Chinese now face a prison sentence of 20 years. The verdict will be handed down on June 21, 2024.
