It is alleged that 60-year-old Takeshi Ebisawa first approached DEA agents in 2020, offering drugs and surface-to-air missiles. But the plot took a chilling turn when Ebisawa sent photographs and samples of radioactive materials that were later confirmed to contain uranium and weapons-grade plutonium that could fuel nuclear weapons.
Prosecutors said Ebisawa believed the Iranian general was dealing with his proxies and even made a video call in which he bragged about having more than 2,000 kilograms of nuclear material. Thai authorities, working with the Drug Enforcement Administration, seized the materials.
Ebisawa faces life in prison if convicted.
