In 2023, 44% of all new businesses in Russia were opened by people under 35 years old, according to a study by Business Environment. 15% of new registered companies came from people under 25 years of age. The absolute leader in the number of businesses opened in 2023 was retail.

Retail has become the most popular among Russian entrepreneurs who registered a business in 2023. This follows from the results of the study “Business Environment”, reviewed by RB.RU.
Following retail in popularity among registered businesses are freight forwarding, wholesale trade, construction, real estate transactions and catering. The IT sector closed the top 10 with an increase in the number of startups of 10% by 2022.
The largest number of new companies appeared in Moscow, the Moscow region, the Krasnodar region, the regions of St. Petersburg, Rostov, Sverdlovsk and the Republic of Bashkortostan. The Moscow region showed the largest increase (+26%) until 2022.
44% of new businesses were launched by people under 35 years of age, of which 15% are between 18 and 25 years old, 3.5% are between 18 and 19 years old.
To conduct the study, Delovaya Sreda studied the dynamics of the records of 156 thousand individual entrepreneurs and LLCs, where the share of individual entrepreneurs accounted for 86%, and LLCs – 14%.
