Gemini Nano is currently only available for Pixel 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S24. Google engineer Terence Zhang confirmed that hardware limitations prevent the device from running on the standard Pixel 8.

The most obvious culprit seems to be RAM. Pixel 8 has 8GB and Pro has 12GB. But the base Galaxy S24 model is also 8GB and uses Nano, pointing to a deeper hardware incompatibility.

Unfortunately, Google didn’t shed light on the specific hardware limitations that prevent the Pixel 8 from using the Nano.

While the standard Pixel 8 won’t be supported this time around, Zhang hinted that Gemini Nano will be coming to “more expensive devices in the near future.”
