Previously, the base M2 MacBook Air model with 256GB of storage was significantly slower compared to more powerful configurations. This was due to the use of a single 256 GB storage chip.

Good news? Air on M3 changed the approach. YouTube channel Max Tech reports that Apple is now using two 128GB memory chips in the base model. This seemingly small change results in a significant increase in productivity.

Dual NAND allows the M3 Air to process tasks in parallel, greatly increasing data transfer speeds. Benchmarks run by Max Tech show impressive results, with a write speed of 2108 MB/s, which is 33% faster than the M2 Air (1584 MB/s). Read speeds are even more impressive, reaching 2,880 MB/s for the M3 Air compared to the M2 Air’s 1,576 MB/s, an 82% increase.
