Initially, the hearing on this case was scheduled for March 5, but the date was later moved to April 23. The complaint itself was filed on February 1.

History of mutual claims between Carlsberg and Baltika

  • In July, Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the transfer of the Russian assets of Danone and Baltika to the temporary management of the Federal Property Management Agency. The department received 100% of Baltika, including 98.56% belonging to the Swedish legal entity Carlsberg, 0.09% to the German legal entity Carlsberg and 1.35% to Hoppy Union LLC. Carlsberg announced business theft by Russian authorities; the Ministry of Finance denied the accusations.
  • Carlsberg terminated its licensing agreements with Baltika in October 2023. The national company went to court, which as a result prohibited Rospatent from restricting Baltika’s rights to the Carlsberg Group’s international brands.
  • At the end of the year, Carlsberg lost a case over the use of licensing agreements for beer brands. Around the same time, Baltika Vice President Alexander Dedegkaev contacted the presidential administration and asked for help in protecting the company’s brands in countries that Russia considers friendly.
  • In March this year, Baltika filed a new lawsuit against Carlsberg to recover 4.4 billion rubles, of which 4.09 billion rubles are debts.
