The new payment model will not affect game developers, who will continue to pay 5 percent on revenues over $1 million for access to Epic tools. Instead, per-seat subscriptions will be available to linear content creators (movies and TV shows), in-car infotainment systems, and non-gaming developers like theme parks.
The new payment model also includes additional visualization and photogrammetry tools, as well as access to Twinmotion and RealityCapture. The plan is to integrate these tools into Unreal Engine by the end of 2025. Students, teachers and companies with annual revenues of less than $1 million will be exempt from the fee. Companies that create plug-ins for Unreal Engine will be able to continue using the plug-in for free.
