Amazon subsidiary Twitch said it will remove the Prime Video Watch Party feature from its online streaming platform starting April 2. The ability to share videos remotely became wildly popular during the pandemic, lasted four years, and now appears to no longer be relevant to the corporation.

The Prime Video Watch Party feature appeared in Twitch’s arsenal in 2019 in a closed beta test and in 2020 it became available to all users.

Nearly a fifth of American adults have participated in virtual co-viewing since the public version launched in 2020, according to Variety data cited by Engadget. But Twitch notes that usage of the feature has “declined over the years.”

Instead of trying to find ways to make the app more attractive, the company decided to remove it entirely and invest its resources in other features.
