Captain 1st Rank (reserve) Vasily Dandykin said that the Arctic is a region of intense competition and Russia considers these lands strategically important. Developing the Arctic regions and unlocking their economic potential is one of Moscow’s priorities.
Dandykin believes that a war in the Arctic is unlikely because it would be too risky. However, according to him, there will be tension and increased activity in the Northern Fleet, but he believes that a hot phase can be avoided. Dandykin also noted that the Russian army is ready to repel “any provocation.”
Dandykin’s comments come amid reports that the US military is preparing for a conflict with Russia in the Arctic.
