The cost of obtaining illegal information about Russians increased by 2.5 times at the beginning of 2024, up to 44.3 thousand rubles. Kommersant writes about this with reference to a study by the data leak monitoring and intelligence service DLBI. Experts analyzed the offers of more than 80 intermediaries who sell these types of services on Telegram and the dark web.

The price of “breaking through” these Russians increased to almost 45 thousand rubles

Analysts divided the collection and transmission of data through telecom operators (monthly details of calls and SMS), “innovative” banking clients (account statements for a given period of clients’ accounts) and government information systems ( traffic police data, etc.).

The most expensive “mobile penetration” of the “Big Four” operators is 3.3 times higher, the average acquisition cost of these telecom companies reaches 90 thousand rubles.

The cost of data for bank clients (statement per user and month) last year increased by 51%, up to 38,000-40,000 rubles, and remains unchanged in 2021-2022.

The cost of obtaining data from government systems is also increasing, but the price of such services remains the lowest – about 2 thousand rubles per download.

In theory, data breaches could compete with the “breakthrough.” However, FACCT believes that even if leaks continue to increase, hidden services to search for information about a person will not become cheaper. According to the interlocutor of the publication, if a buyer asks for a “breakthrough”, then “he is interested in information from closed sources and not what can be obtained quickly and cheaply.”

  • Since January 2024, more than 510 million Russian citizens’ data has been leaked online. Additionally, 500 million of them were compromised as a result of a leak. For the entire year 2023, the RKN identified 168 personal data breaches, while approximately 300 million records about citizens of the Russian Federation ended up on the Internet.
