A new study presented by the American Heart Association found that restricting food intake to less than eight hours per day increases the likelihood of death from cardiovascular disease by 91%. Additionally, scientists have not found a single cause of death for which the risk could be reduced by limiting food intake to an eight-hour window.
One possible explanation for these results is that food restriction reduces the amount of muscle mass. Scientists noticed that people who ate for less than eight hours a day had less muscle mass than those who ate for 12-16 hours. Loss of muscle mass is also associated with an increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease.
