The Ministry of Digital Development plans to create a platform to identify deepfakes created using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. This was reported by the Vedomosti newspaper, citing a representative of the ministry.

This order was given to the department by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin after a strategic session held at the end of December 2023 dedicated to the national project “Data Economy”.
It is not reported when the platform is scheduled to be launched or who will develop it.
Currently, forensic scientists and information security specialists manually identify deepfakes by analyzing a specific video. They look for the presence of moiré (a wavy pattern that is not present on the subject and is caused by the superimposition of one image on another and the arrangement of pixels on the sensor) around images, jitter, speech delays, splicing . , interruption of audio streams and histogram functions.
The experts interviewed by the newspaper believe that a computer system would allow detecting unnatural changes or anomalies in videos and images, but it would be more logical not to find external signs of a deepfake, but rather to use a specific technique to create content. that is, “detect” a specific technology.
One of the possible solutions is a search robot (crawler), which will scan the video, check its uniqueness and the probability that it was generated.
