The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism has reached an agreement with local banks and the migration department on the possibility of foreigners obtaining a tourist residence permit, writes TASS citing the local press. Previously, foreign citizens faced non-renewal of their residence permit due to the inability to open a bank account.

The Turkish authorities have resolved the problem of opening bank accounts to renew residence permits.

The contradiction in the procedure is that to open a bank account, banks require a valid residence permit. Furthermore, to renew a residence permit it is necessary to have a bank account in one of the country’s banks.

Earlier this week it was reported that representatives from the tourism sector had raised the issue.

“Foreigners will receive the necessary assistance to open bank accounts. This decision was made at the level of the Banks Association. In addition, the corresponding letter was sent to the Immigration Affairs Office. There they will even explain to a foreigner how to open an account,” said Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Ersoy.

The Minister also pointed out that one of the reasons for obtaining or extending the residence permit is the obligation to transfer to a bank account each month the amount equivalent to 1.5 times the minimum wage: 825 dollars.

For the first time last summer, difficulties arose among foreigners in Turkey in obtaining and renewing tourist residence permits. Later, many Russians who remained in the country were unable to renew their documents. At the same time, they had confirmed rental and rental contracts.

For this reason, around 40,000 foreign citizens were forced to leave Antalya in February.
