Since launching the social network publicly in February, Bluesky has experienced a significant growth spurt, reaching more than 2 million new users, bringing its total user base to over 5 million. Bluesky’s new approach reflects the company’s philosophy of user-centered algorithms. According to the company’s blog, its goal is to create an “ecosystem of moderation tools” that allows communities to “create their own space with their own choices.”

We are talking about user-generated “tagging services”. Similar to the existing ability to filter content based on openness (show, warn, or hide), developers will now be able to create custom filtering systems that users can choose to accept as they see fit.

Imagine a “Spider Shield” service that protects users from spider photos in their feeds. This is an example of the possibilities this system opens up.

The rollout of the feature will begin this week.
