Mobile company MTS installed communications equipment at the Antarctic Bellingshausen station, the first such case among Russian companies. This equipment, which operates on the 2G standard, provides communication via satellite and is adapted to Antarctic conditions.
The study was carried out within the framework of a joint project of MTS, the Russian Antarctic Expedition and a scientific institute. Equipment for sustainable operation took into account all the features of the Antarctic climate, where snow and rain often fall.
This decision will greatly facilitate the lives of scientists and researchers making meteorological and oceanographic observations at the station. They will be able to easily communicate with the outside world and stay in touch with their families and colleagues, which is important for successful work and safety on a remote island.
