Iman F. Khan, MD, MPH, of Boston University, and colleagues surveyed 175 adults attending an outpatient dermatology clinic about social media use, perceptions of cosmetic procedures, and desire to undergo a cosmetic procedure. It turns out that there are several factors that contribute to the desire to pursue cosmetology.

These factors include using photo editing apps, following celebrities and social media influencers, and following accounts that showcase their beauty results.

During the pandemic, scientists observed a statistically significant change in the number of participants subscribed to social media accounts with the results of cosmetic procedures: COVID – 31.9%; After COVID – 50.6%. There was also an increase in the number of people considering having a cosmetic procedure (pre-COVID – 63.8%; post-COVID – 86.4%) and discussing cosmetic procedures with a doctor, dermatologist or other specialist (pre-COVID – 43.6%). % ; post – 67.9% believed that a cosmetic procedure would improve their self-confidence (47.9% – before COVID; 77.8% – after COVID).
