Yandex has started identifying phishing sites using artificial intelligence (AI). Since November 2023, the neural network has identified almost 400,000 such resources. A representative of the company told Vedomosti about this.

The algorithms analyzed the date of creation of the resource, the frequency of visits, how much time other users spent on it, whether the site appeared in search results or whether the user followed a link to it. If the site looked like a phishing site, the browser would run an additional scan.
A representative of the company assures that the accuracy in identifying phishing sites with the Yandex browser is 99.9%. His algorithms find more than 1.5 thousand such resources per day, of which one or two turn out to be “non-phishing.”
The problem lies in the fact that a long time passes from the moment a phishing resource appears until it reaches these databases. By the time the browser detects it, it will be too late, says Alexander Vurasko, head of external digital threat monitoring service Solar Aura at Solar Group.
Additionally, there are specific types of industrial phishing, for example by industrial and manufacturing companies, that almost never end up in the databases of anti-phishing communities, he clarified.
